Alumni Focus
We are pleased to spotlight two UMMC residency alumni and current faculty, Drs. Allison Cruse and Chelsea Mockbee.
Allison Cruse, MD
After completing a residency in dermatology and a fellowship in dermatopathology at UMMC, Allison remained in Jackson, MS, and joined the Dermatology and Pathology faculty in 2019. Her week is divided between clinical dermatology and dermatopathology, with her clinical practice encompassing a wide array of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She continues to be involved in the dermatology residency program, serving as an assistant residency program director along with Dr. Mockbee. Her teaching responsibilities include dermatopathology lectures for dermatology and pathology residents and overseeing resident clinics at the VA and cosmetic clinics at UMMC.
She and her husband, Blake, have two children — Eleanor, 6, and Cooper, 3. When not working or spending time with her family, Allison enjoys traveling, most frequently to Oxford, and volunteering with the Junior League of Jackson and her children’s school, the First Presbyterian Day School.
Allison is thankful to have had the career path afforded to her by UMMC and tells us “I have a truly unique perspective having worked with every resident (past and present), both as a fellow resident and later as a faculty member. I was not only provided with an exceptional education during residency but feel fortunate to be in a position to continue to learn from not only our faculty but our current residents."

Chelsea Mockbee, MD
After completing a residency in Dermatology in 2019, Chelsea remained in Jackson, MS, and joined the UMMC dermatology faculty. She practices general and cosmetic dermatology with a focus on contact dermatitis and patch testing. She also continues to be involved in the dermatology residency program, serving as an assistant residency program director along with Dr. Cruse.
Away from work, it’s all hands on deck with her husband Wesley and their four young children, Steele (8), Mac (5), Mary Ellis (2), and Caleb (10 months). She can usually be found at soccer or baseball tournaments on the weekends and enjoys being an active member at Fondren Church.
Chelsea writes, “It has been such a privilege to practice alongside her mentors and have the opportunity to stay involved in the residency program where she also serves as an Assistant Program Director.”
